An attempt was made on Christmas Day to eliminate the head of Radio Haiti Inter, Michèle Montas, the Reporters Without Borders has alleged. The attackers wanted to eliminate her for fighting for the punishment of the killers of her journalist husband Jean Dominique in 2002, it said.

Reporters Without Borders has deplored an atmosphere of lawlessness in Haiti that has led two radio stations to go off the air in recent days after threats to their staff. One of the stations received threats after its coverage of the arrest of the head of an organisation defending the rights of thousands of people who recently lost money in a collapsed pyramid scam based on traditional cooperatives.
