Much of what we are discussing today is based on information disseminated through media. So, we are familiar with the mediaÂ’s role in setting off deliberations such as this one. How far they succeed in alleviating poverty is another matter.

The traffic police in Bangalore have now started the process of computerising the pre-paid autorickshaw counters so that the autorickshaws can be better monitored. Two of the city's pre-paid autorickshaw counters have been computerised while a third one will be computerised in a week's time.

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up efforts to go in for large scale e-governance with a total investment of Rs 100 crore during next fiscal. However, the corporation, whose annual budget of Rs 8,000 crore is more than that of Kerala as a whole, would spend Rs 70 crore for the same purpose in the current fiscal.

The Government proposes to increase the number of members in the State Information Commission to five soon. This was announced at a conference convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Thursday on the request of Chief Information Commissioner Palat Mohandas.
