A new poll shows 69 percent of the British public believe that the computer is the electronic device with the biggest impact on their lives in the last decade. Yet few seem to be aware of the dire working conditions in computer production in the developing world.

17.11.2003 Students and education ministry representatives from Egypt, Mexico, South Africa and the United States are coming together for a videoconference conversation on 17 November 2003 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST. The conversation will focus on the importance of learning about other countries and other cultures, and the positive role technology can play in international education. The virtual meeting, which will be Webcast live, will be repeated in Mexico, South Africa and Egypt.

06.11.2003 At a ceremony held in Colombia, the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) announced the winners of the 2003 Betinho Prize - three remarkable information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives from Peru, Mexico and Argentina that are improving the lives of people and communities in Latin America. Two Brazilian networks received honourable mentions.

But the 15-nation study also found new technologies "posing a challenge to traditional decision-making structures", the UN agency added.

20.12.2001 El primer informe sobre tràfic de nens per a l'explotació sexual a l'Amèrica Central i Mèxic denuncia la falta de programes governamentals per donar suport als menors víctimes d'abusos i oferir-los alternatives per sobreviure i alerta sobre els creixents nivells de prostitució infantil i turisme sexual a la regió. L'estudi, presentat durant el Segon Congrés Mundial contra l'Explotació Sexual Comercial dels nens celebrat al Japó, investiga la situació a sis països: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala i Mèxic. Les ONG autores del document, Casa Alianza, ECPAT i el Fons per a la Infantesa Audrey Hepburn, adverteixen especialment sobre l'ús d'Internet en l'explotació de menors a través de la pornografia infantil, afavorit pels buits legals existents a la major part d'estats llatinoamericans.

Una niña víctima de abuso sexual esconde su identidad
20.12.2001 El primer informe sobre tráfico de niños para la explotación sexual en Centro América y México denuncia la falta de programas gubernamentales para apoyar a los menores víctimas de abusos y ofrecerles alternativas para sobrevivir y alerta sobre los crecientes niveles de prostitución infantil y turismo sexual en la región. El estudio, presentado durante el Segundo Congreso Mundial contra la Explotación Sexual Comercial de Niños celebrado en Japón, investiga la situación en seis países: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala y México. Las ONG autoras del documento, Casa Alianza, ECPAT y Fondo para la Niñez Audrey Hepburn, advierten especialmente sobre el uso de Internet en la explotación de menores a través de la pornografía infantil, favorecido por los vacíos legales existentes en la mayor parte de estados latinoamericanos.
