A Unesco-supported three-day conference in Marrakech has concluded that freedom of expression and press freedom are vital to creating a knowledge society under the WSIS framework. The conference was attended by more than 270 representatives of international and regional media groups, NGOs and academic institutions.

Uganda has been elected as one of Africa's representatives on the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council. The Council is the Union's supreme administrative organ and is responsible for policies that include spectrum regulation for telecom and Internet applications. Other African countries that have been elected are: South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

The field of education technology as a whole is preoccupied with two concurrent agendas: education reform and effective integration of technology. The education reform agenda becomes paramount because research suggests that technology provides value-added in educational settings that are constructivist, learner-centered and inquiry-based in nature.
