07.10.2002 Overcoming four years of official resistance, Asia Plus Radio has become the first private radio station to broadcast in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe. This radio station is unique in that it has the potential to reach a large urban audience, unlike most of Tajikistan's 15 independent TV stations are located in the north, far from large population areas.

29.08.2002 The Tajik government has reversed a decision denying an independent news agency, Asia-Plus, a radio licence, following pressure from media groups and the international community. Two other radio stations, "Asia FM" and "Vatan", have also been granted licences to broadcast in the capital city of Dushanbe.

07.08.2002 The independent Tajik news agency Asia Plus will receive permission to broadcast, and become the first private broadcaster to serve the Tajikistan capital, Dushanbe. Asia Plus has sought to broadcast for four years, but was refused a licence a few weeks earlier.
