20.10.2006 Oko milion i po stanivnika Srbije, ili 24,2 odsto, koristi internet, pokazalo je istraživanje Centra za proucavanje informacionih tehnologija (CEPIT) Beogradske otvorene skole. U odnosu na raspoložive podatke iz 1999. godine, broj korisnika interneta u Srbiji poratsao je pet puta, ali, prema ocenama CEPIT, to je nezadovoljavajući porast, jer je izostala dramatična stopa rasta kakva je bila uobičajena u drugim zemljama u početnim fazama njegovog korišćenja.
