The Sinazongwe District Development Committee in Southern Zambia has opened up an advocacy centre for its community. The advocacy centre based at Malima will provide services to over two thousand people from the area and will be used to access various ICTs.

The women of Kalomo district, some 400 kilometres South of Lusaka are influencing and transforming the face of the district, socially and economically with the help of new technologies. These women, under the Kalomo Bwacha Women ICT club, are using the only and first resource centre of women in the district to improve other womenÂ’s money livelihoods by using the internet.

OneWorld Africa (OWA) is working with Chipata District WomenÂ’s Development Association (DWDA) on a Chipata WomenÂ’s Mobile Communication Project, which aims to improve the communication of developmental information from the district to the area associations and to further connect the district office to several information sources.

The privately-owned newspaper The Post in Zambia is taking significant steps to make technological advances. The most recent measure towards improvement is not only for the publication itself but for the entire nation. The latest stage in this major project launched two years ago, is to implement a nationwide Internet Service Provider (ISP) project.

In a letter to the Zambian ministry for communications and transport, APC has commended the Zambian government for its efforts in drafting a holistic national ICT policy and for disseminating the draft online to make it possible for the public to submit comments. "We value the broad definition of ICT adopted early in the document," says APC, but "Some important policy concerns are mentioned as action points for implementation without a clear enough policy position that would give direction during implementation. Some are left out altogether."

The lack of computerisation is severely affecting the Zambian immigration department's screening of incoming investors. Although the government's new policies allow for greater investment inflow, data compilation of investors is still done manually.
