Matkapuhelimien käyttö kasvaa tällä hetkellä nopeimmin köyhissä kehitysmaissa. Yksi kasvualueista on Afrikka, jossa uusien kännyköiden määrä lisääntyi viime vuonna 44,8 prosenttia edellisvuoteen verrattuna. Matkapuhelinvalmistajien tavoin myös teleoperaattorien näkymät ovat huimat Afrikassa. Myyntiä kasvattavat nyt ihmiset, joilla ei ole aiemmin ollut kännykkään varaa.
