30.11.2004 Deutsche Bahn (DB), which manages the German railway system, is adopting Linux-based servers as a cost-cutting measure. While the company has already transferred half of its servers to Linux systems, it expects to have more than 300 Linux servers in operation by the end of 2004.

02.11.2004 Linux and other open-source operating systems are viable, a study in the United Kingdom has said. The research tested some pilot projects in the country and found that Linux can extend the life of equipment and limit the number of servers needed to run programmes.

01.11.2004 Using virtual reality technologies, researchers in Europe have designed a tool that will enable visitors to view live digital versions of archaeological sites. The gadget, a head-mounted display with a miniature camera and a backpack computer, captures the view from the site and generates an animated visual story. The project being funded by the European Union seeks to popularise the cultural heritage of Europe.
