The Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Knowledge Base for CIS and Baltic states will assist decision makers and practitioners by providing them access to information and tool that will help them in effective planning and managing of open learning in higher education programmes in this region. Using open source database and a content management system, the knowledge base will provide distance- learning practitioners a space for knowledge sharing.

The Cabinet Office of the UK government forecasts that 96% of the government services will be available online by 2005 in its Autumn Performance Report. According to the Report, almost 75% of the services is currently available electronically.

The Zagreb Institute for International Relations presented the new web-portal for access to information about the European Union in Croatian Language. The Portal lists information on the structure of EU, its history, functioning, policies, member states, as well as info on states that are yet to become members.

A study commissioned by the government of the United Kingdom has ranked the country third in the world in use of information and communication technologies. According to the report, 69 per cent of companies in the United Kingdom use broadband and 30 per cent of micro businesses trade online.

The European Parliament is considering a proposal to make finger-printing proof mandatory for all EU citizens in their passports and travel documents issued by the EU member states. Several human rights groups have called the Parliament to stop mass finger-printing as the policy can pose serious threat to democracy and citizens right.
