Civil Society organisations had earlier written to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan expressing serious concern about the suitability of Tunisia as a host country for the WSIS because of its poor huiman rights record. They have now asked him, again, to take follow up measures after serious attacks on human rights and the right to freedom of expression at the summit.

On the afternoon of Friday, November 18, 2005, one of three stakeholders taking part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) drew a line in the sand. Civil society (CS) representatives from all continents lined up on a panel to deliver a stark closing statement. At the same time, International Telecommunications Union UN-o-crats drew conclusions of their own a couple of hundred meters away in the plenary room.

Prvi dan sam bila očajna traeći ene po prostoru uz toliko nadmoćnu prisutnost mukaraca, posebno onih uniformiranih i naoruanih. No, kad sam malo pogledala uokolo, vidjela sam (osim participanata) preteno ene u ruičastom koje rade kao čistačice i hodaju okolo vukući vreće sa smećem.

Jam shumë i çuditur prej varieteteve të ICTs që përdoren këtu. Kam parë lidhjet që kanë njerëzit me celularin Nokia, me të cilin bëjnë foto të ndryshme thotë Taurai Maduna teksa pi pijen e tij në hollin e ekspozimeve të konferencës WISIS në veri të Tunizis.

APC vi go pretstavuva Taurai Maduna, informaticar od nevladina organizacija od Zimbabve, Kubatana i ucesnik na WSIS.
Maduna e ucesnik na rabotilnicata koja ja organizira HIVOS, nerecena "Izrazuvanje pod reprasija", koja se odrza deneska. Kako sto izjavuva, nego ne go interesira sto imaat da kazat vladite prisutni na WSIS, koi idat i nametnuivaat uslovi za koi ne moza da se pregovara, tuku go interesiraat ucesnicite od gragjanskite organizascii od cel svet i razmenata na idei.

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, José Antonio Ocampo, launched the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, an alliance of national and regional assemblies, bilateral and multilateral agencies, international organisations, media, corporations and civil society.

Wednesday afternoon, November 17, the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) invited the press and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for what was to become a marathon of explicit talks challenging the Tunisian government on its human rights record. While heads of states speeches present at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) were pouring in on all TV channels, revolution was just around the corner in another district of Tunis. E' comiciato oggi a Tunisi il Vertice mondiale sulla società dell'informazione (WSIS) con un compromesso sul futuro controllo di internet, una delle questioni più spinose dell'incontro. L'accordo permette agli Stati Uniti di mantenere lo stato attuale della gestione della rete attraverso l'Icann. Si susseguono, intanto, le reazioni all'oscuramento da parte del governo tunisino dei siti italiani che ospitano la raccolta di firme allappello per la liberazione degli internauti di Zarzis, e perchè il forum alternativo della società civile sia garantito: il Segretario Generale della Federazione Nazionale della Stampa Italiana, Paolo Serventi Longhi, ha inviato allAmbasciatore della Tunisia una lettera. Amnesty International e Human Right Watch dichiarato che il pugno di ferro del governo tunisino sui difensori dei diritti umani e la sua intolleranza verso gli oppositori interni rischiano di trasformare in farsa il Summit.

Druga faza WSIS-a i zvanično je danas otvorena. Ne plenarnoj sjednici koja je uslijedila, najveći aplauz dijela auditorija gdje su bili smjeteni predstavnici građanskog drutva dobio je Samuel Scmid, vajcarski predsjednik, za svoje komentare o slobodi izraavanja na internetu. APC je u procesima internet upravljanja učestvovao isključivo na Svjetskom samitu o informatičkom drutvu. Izvan ovog učeća, a u saradnji sa ostalim partnerima, uključujući članove WSIS internet upravljanja u civilnom drutvu, APC je kristalizovao set preporuka upućenih liderima Samita u Tunisu.

Na putu prema obećanom globalnom selu, informacijsku superautocestu opterećuje slab pristup i visoke cijene pri kojima si je većina stanovnika planeta ne moe priutiti. Redukcija međunarodnih trokova interneta je vaan prioritet, potcrtan u skupu preporuka APC-a koje se nalaze među naglascima WSIS-a.
