Partnership for building open community software
Open eNRICH, the free and open source version of eNRICH, a software to enble communities create and exchange locally relevant knowledge through internet, is being developed by a partnership of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Delhi, Open Knowledge Network (OKN) and UNESCO.
The current version of eNRICH, developed by NIC, has been implemented in various community multimedia centres run by UNESCO. In India, grassroots ICT initiatives such as the Akshaya Project of Kerala, India and in the District Rural Development Agencies of the state governments of India run eNRICH-based community portal. The nine project sites of UNESCOs ICT for Poverty Reduction project (ictPR) have also provided the local community with a web-based platform using this tool to publish and exchange traditional knowledge.
The open source version of this software with added features will further contribute to the work to the OKN, a network of grassroots access centres spread over several countries in Africa and Asia.
