China shuts down thousands of internet cafes

China has closed 12,575 internet cafes to create a “safer environment for young people” in the country. The government has claimed that those centers were operating illegally between October and December last year.

The cafes were close to primary and middle schools, allowing school children in accessing violent games and pornographic materials.

Chinese government controls what the Chinese citizen can see online and blocks access to websites deemed pornographic or subversive.
