Culture and communications statistics available online
A collection of statistics on culture and communications for 1995-2000 is available online by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. The recent data provided by the UNESCO member states to UNESCO updates the 1999 UNESCO Statistical Yearbook.
Statistical tables are available in three formats: excel, html, and in an interactive web-interface.
It provides eight statistical tables, related to four main categories:

Books: Number of Titles by the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC).

Films and Cinemas: Importation of long films by the country of origin, films by country and region, number, seating capacity and annual attendance in cinema halls, production of long films.

Libraries: Select indicators on national and public libraries and libraries of institutions of tertiary education.

Press: Number of titles and circulation for daily and non-daily newspapers.
