Tunisia tightens censorship on websites

The website of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), the opposition party in Tunisia, is blocked by the government authorities. PDP’s website is the latest in the long list of websites, including Reporters Sans Frontiers’ (RSF) http://www.radionongrata.org , blocked by the Tunisian government.

Tunisian President Ben Ali, however, defended the policy of censorship on the ground that the organisation of the World Summit proves the support of the international community for Tunisia’s stance on freedom of expression on the internet. RSF strongly criticises the government authorities for its censorship on the internet combined with a crackdown on the cyberdissidents.
