ADB pilots study to see use of ICTs in basic education in Uzbekistan

Though Uzbekistan has a net enrolment ratio of 99% with a minimal gender disparity, the quality of basic education is often low and less relevance. To improve the situation, Asian Development Bank has initiated a scoping study to integrate an ICT-assisted learning in certain grade levels.

ADB will commission a Technical Assistance (TA) programme for conducting the study in a participatory manner to elicit the viewpoints of the stakeholders in the emerging project. The TA will help in preparing an action plan for implementing the targets of the national ICT strategy, which aims to increase the computer-student ratio from 1:110 to 1:20 and provide Internet access to 63% of all schools by 2010, from only 0.2% now.
