Sadnet - winner of the Africa category of the Yeomans Award for Local Content
Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP), OneWorld Africa and the Open Knowledge Network (OKN) are pleased to announce the Africa category winner of the inaugural Yeomans Award for Local Content: The Southern Africa Drought Technology Network (Sadnet), Zimbabwe.
Sadnet, a project of the Southern Alliance For Indigenous Resources (SAFIRE), seeks to establish an information network that links sources of agricultural technical and marketing information with development practitioners and rural communities in drought prone regions of Southern Africa.
The project is based on the premise that "Knowledge is power" and that the vulnerable farmers are in a better position to make informed decisions with regards their agricultural production and drought mitigation activities if they have a ready supply of relevant and up to date information.
A cash prize of US$2,500 will be awarded to Sadnet. We take this opportunity to congratulate Sadnet and look forward to
sharing knowledge on the continued efforts of the work carried out in the area of local content.
We would also like to thank the international panel of judges who contributed time to the judging of this Award: Ann-Kristin Håkansson (Indigenous Media Network), Nathan Russell (CIAT - International Centre for Tropical Agriculture), Peter Ballantyne (INASP), Professor S F Matsinhe (UNISA) and Sunit Shrestha (Thai RuralNet).
