Cannes screens debut film from Sri Lanka

“Sulanga Enu Pinisa” (Forsaken Land), a film by Sri Lankan debutant filmmaker Vimukthi has been selected to to compete at the world renowned Cannes International Film Festival in France, May 11-22, 2005.

After Lester James Peries’ “Rekhawa” in 1957, Jayasundara’s is the second film from this country to be hosted at Cannes. With this film, Mr. Jayasundara joins the league of eminent filmmakers whose debut films were showcased at the Cannes, including Satyajit Ray, Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Lester James Peries, Shaji. N. Karun and Samira Makhmalbaf.
