UN launches new partnership to bridge the digital divide

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is launching a new ICT for Development partnership for preparing concrete strategies towards improving access to ICTs through boosting economic competitiveness of developing nations.

The new partnership will will focus on key areas including measuring the information society, e-tourism, ICT policies in developing countries, e-finance for small and medium-size enterprises, and free and open-source software.

The process involves key stakeholders involved in the information society measurement, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), UNCTAD, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Regional Commissions (ECA, ECLAC, ESCAP, ESCWA), the World Bank and the United Nations ICT Task Force.
