Dutch makes knowledge accessible to all

DARE is a joint initiative by all the Dutch universities, the National Library of the Netherlands, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

A total of 47,000 digital documents from 16 institutions is being made available online through this €2m DARE project. The fully searchable database stores multimedia content.

Dutch commercial publishing houses are discontent with this new development. Apparntly, DAREnet has became a landmark in the open access inititatives.
