Rural India Needs a Lot of Car Batteries to Bridge the Digital Divide

Via Technologies has initiated a pilot in a village near Mumbai to impart computer literacy among the students using low cost indigeneously fabricated PCs.

Launching the initiative, Jitendra Shah, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, said, "Bringing the benefits of computer technology to rural villages in India will require a substantial amount of work - and a lot of extra car batteries."
