The second Latin American and the Caribbean Conference on Free and Open Source Software Development and Usage will be held from 28 September to 1st October 2005 Recife and Olinda, Brazil.
The LACFREE 2005 Conference is being organized jointly by the UNESCO Office MERCOSUL in Montevideo, Uruguay and the UNESCO Office Brasilia, Brazil in cooperation with the Brazilian Instititutions ITI, SERPRO, ANATEL and SOFTEX.
Promoting knowledge on the usage of free and open source software (FOSS), exchanging experiences and new implementation practices, and analysing the impact of FOSS on the evolution of knowledge societies in the context of developing countries will be the focus of the Second LACFREE Conference.
The themes of the Conference include:

FOSS for strengthening software industry

The production cycle of FOSS case studies

Legal implications of FOSS intellectual property rights and patents

FOSS in e-governance concepts

Human resource development and capacity building
Professionals and students are invited to submit papers for presentation at the LACFREE 2005 Conference in Spanish, Portuguese or English (pdf format, maximum 10 pages, indicating one of the aforementioned themes).
