Despite being a relatively new phenomenon, information and communication technology (ICT) is making its way into the social, cultural, economic, political and governance aspects of Bhutanese society according to the department of information.
The progress was being guided by a roadmap - the Bhutan ICT policy and strategy (BIPS) - which was approved by the government in june last year which envisions making Bhutan a knowledge based society.
