With the advent of and continuous innovations in information and communication technologies the production and exchange of data has gone up manifold. Further, the data management processes has become cumbersome both at the micro and the macro level. There is no denial to the fact that accurate and complete data is essential for accuracy of the organisational decisions.
“However, its significance and the impact of its availability and quality are often ignored. Unfortunately, data quality rarely gets the attention it deserves. No one wants to consciously admit that their business decisions are based on inaccurate or incomplete data. It transpires that the majority of organisations have made little effort to determine the severity of data quality issues and its impact on their businesses’, says George Varghese, Head Pharma and ITeS, Marketing & Alliances, SAS Institute (India). He further adds that many organisations are not even aware of their data quality problems.
