OneWorld South Asia to host training programme on local language web hosting and communication

OneWorld South Asia, in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), is happy to announce the training programme on “Local Language Web Hosting and Communication with Ek-Duniya” at Pune during 6-9 July 2005. Vanarai Foundation, Pune is the local implementation associate of OneWorld South
Asia for conducting this programme.

The training programme is primarily targeted to grassroots and intermediary level civil society organisations to expose them on various nuances of web-site creation, web-tools, and content management system (CMS) – enabling them to build their dynamic websites. At the end of this 4-day programme,
the participants are expected to build their skeletal web-site, which can then be developed to full-fledged sites within Ek-Duniya initiative of OneWorld South Asia. Ek-Duniya facilitates grassroots communities, civil society organisations and other multi-stakeholder partners to host local language content and communicate effectively on the web. Ek-Duniya
implementation entails design of template based dynamic websites, and uploading English & Indic language content – with continuous hand-holding support from OneWorld South Asia – to enhance the use of ICTs as a strategic communications tool for strengthening the work being done at the grassroots in development, poverty reduction and social justice; and to build an online community of NGOs in South Asia using the power of the Internet in order to reinforce their grassroots activities.

A brief note of the training programme is enclosed here for your reference.

Organisations interested may consider nominating 1-2 members for this programme. No prior technical knowledge – other than exposure to common Office tools – is necessary to join this programme. The participants are however expected to work subsequently on creation and update of their respective websites.

Nominations can be made through email, by sending the completed registration form of the nominated participants as email attachments. Please send your email to john.borgoyary@oneworld.netwith copy marked to naimur.rahman@onworld.net
For confirmed outstation participants, OneWorld South Asia will reimburse return travel by train (up to AC-III) or/and will organize the local hospitality at Pune.

Since only limited number of participants can be accommodated for this programme, I would urge an early submission of the training nomination. Ideally the nominations should reach us by Friday 24 June 2005.
