The Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme has launched an Overview of ICT Policies and e-Strategies of Select Asian Economies designed to guide policy makers in incorporating information and communication technology (ICT) policies and strategies into their development agendas online.
This publication provides a comparative study of ICT policies and e-strategies of nine Asian countries India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam which identifies and analyzes the strengths, weaknesses, similarities and gaps in policy formulation in Asia.
Five key areas are examined:
· development of IT infrastructure
· creation of a secure cyberspace environment
· creation and management of local content
· establishment of effective regulatory policies and agencies
· launch of education policies that utilize and encourage expansion of ICT capacities
This publication is a part of the APDIP ICT4D Series which focuses on ICT policies and its impact in accelerating social and economic development.
