The Education Tax Fund (ETF) has allocated N1.2 billion for the provision of information communication technology and capacity building in Nigerian universities.
According to the ETF spokesman, the fourth phase of the ICT capacity building workshop is currently going on in six selected universities.
Courses to be covered during the workshop for lecturers and students include web development, networking (windows 2003, server, security, trouble-shooting and wireless networking), project management, business skill, generic soft skill and presentation skills.
ETF decided to embark on the provision of ICT and capacity building amongst staff and students as a consequence, ETF decided to provide funding to 24 colleges of medicine across the country and nine ICT centres of excellence in various institutions across the country for the provision of ICT infrastructure in each beneficiary institution.
The ETF assistant director said the lack of skill in the usage, sustenance and expansion of the ICT infrastructure already provided in benefiting institutions, was what propelled the agency to embark on a nationwide capacity building programme targeted at various cadres of staff and students.
