Online information to monitor provincial development in Sri Lanka

A Management Information System (MIS) will enable authorities at the centre and in Provincial Councils to monitor progress of seven main sectors consisting of Education, Health, Highways, Power, Irrigation, Agriculture and Livestock.

The progress reports of the work in these seven sectors will be available online and will be monitored at the President's Office and at the Finance Commission.

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga introduced this new on-line system to ameliorate the performance of the development activities of Provincial Councils as a part of the Finance Commission's ICT capacity building exercise.

This new MIS will help to monitor the progress of provincial development project more systematically and accurately and also facilitate the economic utilisation of resources. It will also ensure that the authorities have easy access to information on all aspects of development activities in the provinces.
