Pakistan donated amount of about $100,000 to develop the library resource centre of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), an independent intergovernmental organisation of eight regional member countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan of the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region, which promotes the sustainable development of the region's mountain and mid-mountain areas and mountain people.
Although its founding members are the regional governments, ICIMOD remains a nonpolitical platform where governments, policy makers, scientists and social scientists come together and cooperate and share knowledge that can contribute to reducing poverty and the other vulnerabilities of this mountain region.
The ICIMOD library, open to the public and especially mountain development practitioners, holds books and journals, videos on social sciences and natural sciences and plays an instrumental role in making this library a mountain learning centre in the region and across the globe.
It continues to fulfill this role along with new modes of information sharing such as the Internet and information, communication and telecommunications (ICT).
