Central excise starts e-payment in Ludhiana, Punjab

People in Ludhiana will now be able to pay their central excise returns or service tax through the system of e-payment,said the Chief Commissioner Central Excise Commissionerate V.K. Garg, at a press conference.

The system is already in operation and the commissionerate will organise an electronic payment week from August 1 to August 5. The banks affiliated with this nationwide programme are Union Bank of India, ICICI, IDBI, HDFC, UTI, PNB and State Bank of India.

After obtaining the user ID and password from the Central Excise Department, the user can log on through the internet to the secure banking and pay all the taxes electronically, on the completion of which, an automatic challan is generated.

The facility is available to any taxpayer who possesses PAN-based 15 digit assessee code or customers having bank’s internet banking ID, as also to customers having registration with banks and opting for e-payment.

V.K. Garg said the Excise Commissionerate has a database of all the assessees paying an annual cash revenue of more than Rs one crore.
