Mobile phone network launched by Uttar Pradesh police

In a giant step towards better communication, the Uttar Pradesh police has launched its exclusive Close User Group (CUG) mobile phone network.
With this, over 2800 police officials, from police station in charge to the Director General of Police (DGP) have been woven into CUG removing communication bottlenecks earlier prevailing in the system.

As part of the network, the largest and first of its kind in the country, the UP Police have obtained around 3,000 SIM cards of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

The police force, which has so far been dependent on wireless sets and landline telephones, used to face the problem of communication but with the mobile network becoming operational, station officers across the state will remain in touch with each other to share vital information.
Calls within the network that will be among the officials coming in its purview would be absolutely free.

A directory, meanwhile, has been circulated enlisting all the mobile numbers, copies of which would be distributed among all police stations and offices of senior officers.
