To promote the further use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the field of education, a one-day conference on 'ICT enabled Distance Teacher Education' was organised by Tamilnadu Open University.
Inaugurating the conference, Prof HP Dikshit, Chairman, Distance Education Council (DEC) and Vice - Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, said, ICT enabled education is the need of the hour as there is a current shortage of trained teachers.
Networking all the schools under one roof using ICT was considered a probable solution.
Further satellite interactive terminal facilitating two-way video and audio conferencing between teachers and students would be set up soon in different parts of India.
The facility has already been launched in Kerala and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has committed to provide a hub and 10 terminals, free of cost to all states.
