Makerere University, Uganda is to start its first ever e-learning programme in an effort to promote information and communication technology (ICT) among the students and reduce congestion in the lecture rooms of the university.
"There is an increased student population and training in the classroom has been constrained by time and space. We have got to increase capacity through the non-conventional approach," said the deputy Vice- Chancellor, Dr. Lillian Ekirikubinza at the 1st annual international conference and workshop on Sustainable ICT Capacity in Developing Countries.
Ekirikubinza also said that e-learning was also part of the university's strategy to offer higher education to more people. The department of distance learning, she said, would carry out the pilot project.
