Increasing sex determination tests in Punjab causing harm to the sex-ratio

Dr D.L. Goyal, Director Health Services, has issued strict instructions to the ultrasound centres operating in the district to desist from conducting sex determination tests.

Dr Goyal, said, “Sex-determination test is a punishable offence under the PNTD Act and anybody found violating the law would be prosecuted. Punjab has a very poor sex-ratio of 874 females per 1000 males which can be only improved with imposing a strict ban on sex determination tests.”

Dr. Goyal was addressing the media-persons after he distributed calipers among 25 Polio-affected persons on Sunday at the Aggarwal Nursing Home. The Calipers were donated by the Patiala Society for the Welfare of the Handicapped(PSWH).
