UNESCO sponsers workshop for journalists in Syria
A Unesco sponsored three day workshop entitled Writing Skills in a Pluralistic and Updated Approach gathered correspondents of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) in Damascus from 23 to 25 August 2005.
SANA Director General Adnan Mahmoud in welcoming the participants said that the event is an important contribution for developing the skills of local correspondents in a way that allows secure interaction with the main issues that concern the public opinion.
He also pointed out the importance of professional standards for SANA in local news coverage which amount to 80 percent of the total news items published by SANA or any other news agency in the developing or developed countries.
The workshop sessions included practical applications on how to write news items, the different types of journalistic writings, how to use pluralistic approaches in news coverage and the impact of the Internet on new media.
The workshop was organized by UNESCO, under the patronage and presence of Mehdi Dakhlallah, Syrian Minister of Information, and in collaboration with SANA.
