Checking bio-piracy in the WTO regime

While US and Japan are preparing to equip the WTO’s Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (Trips) Agreement with provisions to safeguard national biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge, developing countries are lagging behind in their entrepreneurship towards this.

It is estimated that about 95% of patents are originated in developed countries and the majority of the rest 5% is held by MNCs of developed countries.
