e-Governance in rural development programmes

Ministry of Rural Development has embarked on a number of initiatives to dovetail the advances of Information Technology with effective implementation of its programmes.

The Ministry's web-site, www.rural.nic.in is accessible to all users providing ready information on various aspects of rural development in general, and the Ministry in particular.

For proper monitoring of the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes of the Ministry of Rural Development, on-line monthly financial statements from District Rural Development Agencies and on line monthly progress reports for
specific programmes have been introduced providing transparency and easy access.

The Ministry is also implementing a scheme of Computerization of Land Records with the objective of creating digital database of land records and issue of computerized copies of the Record of Rights (ROR) to land owners.

An amount of Rs. 102 crores has been allocated for computerization of Land Records and other E-Governance initiatives in the Ministry of Rural Development during the financial year 2005-06. No state-wise allocation is made.

The allocated funds are earmarked for utilization during the financial year.
