Dubai municipality makes online licensing mandatoy

Since Tuesday last, Dubai Municipality's Buildings Department has stopped accepting applications for the issuance of license to construct new buildings unless these were submitted online, according to a statement issued by the civic body.

Khalid Mohammed Saleh, Director of Building Department, said that at present applications for licence to carry out modifications or decor work are being accepted both manually and online, but manual submission will be stopped after November 2, 2005.

He said in order to make the transition from manual to online easy for the consultants, the civic body has conducted training and familiarisation courses.

Saleh said the online services of the municipality are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are a major convenience for the applicants who can do the submission from the comfort of their homes or offices. According to the official the move will help save effort, time and money while also having an impact on the numbers of people visiting the civic body in person and crowding the counters.

Referring to a certain regulation implemented by the civic body, Saleh urged the consultant offices to abide by it and list the names of engineers working with them or with contractors. The listing will essentially help the department as well as the information technology department in handling access to services to specified user names, listed by the offices.
