Having yielded to Grameen last year, ITC echoupal was awarded the Develoment Gateway award 2005. Its the most prized award in ICT for Develoment space and echoupal has emerged as the single most successful application of kiosk based initiatives to bring rural areas into the fold of beneficiaries of ICTs.
It has about 6000 kiosks that help transact business with villages for ITC and create IT infrastructure for rural India, train villagers in its use, create local capacities and offer a hope that the villages can be quickly linked to the information super highway.
