Information lifecycle management for Dutch citizens

The Netherlands is creating a unified citizen database to centralise the management of citizen health and welfare issues.
The new database of case histories will be able to track citizens from birth to death.

On birth all Dutch citizens will be given an 'electronic dossier' for each child at birth. The dossier will contain health and family information, with school records and police records being added over the individual's lifetime.

Each record will be given a Citizens Service Number, which will attach to the file throughout the citizen's life. According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Health government agencies will contribute to the dossier, the records will never be shared beyond the public sector.
