Toolkit on planning and implementing sanitation programmes in schools

Realising that as much as 83 percent of primary school-aged children attend school, where lack of effective sanitation facilities lessens the learning ambience of the school. The United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for 2015 and other initiatives that aim for Education for All, have achieved that significant efforts are being made to make more resources available to increase access to education.

Through the “Toolkit on Hygiene, Sanitation and Water in Schools” portal, World Bank aims towards building capacities among the public, private and civil society sectors who are engaged in providing educational services to the young citizens. This toolkit makes available information, resources, and tools that provide support to the preparation and implementation of hygiene, sanitation, and water policies and projects within schools.

The Toolkit contains information on the basic principles of hygiene, sanitation and water policies in schools. It also has documentation on the different stages of a sector assessment, in which a review of the national context takes place, together with the formulation of an intervention strategy.
