Telemedicine unit inaugurated in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Vellore Range, Christopher Nelson inaugurated the telemedicine unit of the Trauma Care and Road Safety (T-CARS) Trust at the T-CARS Trauma Clinic in Thiruvalam.
E.S.Krishnamoorthy, neurologist and Director, Institute of Neurological Sciences, Voluntary Health Services (VHS) Medical Centre, Taramani, Ravindran, orthopaedic specialist of the VHS Medical Centre and C.M.Jojoe, dental surgeon from Thrissur, Kerala, who form the telemedicine panel of doctors provided on-line consultation for the treatment of two trauma patients who had come to the clinic at the time of the inaugural function. Franco Benedict, general secretary, T-CARS said that treatment of trauma cases including telemedicine consultation would be provided free of cost at the clinic, while general cases such as cough, cold and fever would be treated at subsidised cost. There are four nurses at the clinic who would contact him over the phone and show him the injuries through the web camera. Based on his advice, the nurses would either carry out first aid to the patients or refer them to the nearest hospital. Comment: It is a great idea.In fact it is said that many accident victims are lost due to prblme sin th intial few hours or minutes after the accident.Hence I feel this kind oif a primary care set up would help to save many a lives in accidents.I fully appreciate the effort by Dr Francobenedct and T N Sheshan in implemneting this projet.
