Seminar discusses role of technology education in development

A seminar entitled “Towards the Incorporation of Vocational Technical Education in the Future Secondary School Curriculum” in Brunei Darussalam has highlighted the “vital role” of incorporating vocational and technological education in the school curriculum in order to fulfil the nation's need to create an informed and knowledge-based society and to produce employees with the skills and adaptability that will be demanded by future employers.

The seminar was held to discuss issues and imperatives associated with a “technology education” curriculum, and generate ideas regarding design and development of a curriculum which includes technology education, as well as the associated resources and implementation requirements. A number of recommendations were made based on the discussions which will be used as reference when the ministry is drawing up an action plan for the development and implementation of the new curriculum.

The seminar, held between 5 to 8 September at the premises of the SEAMEO-VOCTECH Regional Centre, was organised by the Curriculum Development Department of the Ministry of Education. The seminar was attended by over 50 participants, including teachers, curriculum committee members and representatives of relevant government and non-government agencies.
