UNESCO will support a workshop on preparing a master plan for the national press in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC), to be organised in Kinshasa from 18 to 21 January 2006 by the Ministry of Press and Information.
The workshop, focusing on the promotion of independent and pluralistic media in DRC, will bring together Congolese media professionals. As the Democratic Republic of Congo embarks on a new era in its history, the Ministry of Press and Information is seeking to establish a master plan for the national press, fully aware of the stakes that it has to face along the way to achieving a democratic society. This plan includes orientations and strategies reflecting the wish of Transitional Government to modernise the media in order to make it efficient. Building an independent and pluralistic press is an integral part of mechanisms aiming to consolidate the state of law. Six main themes will be discussed during the workshop: - State and the information sector, - Legal reforms, press and independence of the legal sector, - Audiovisual production in DRC, - Capacity building for written public and private press, - ICT, - Media and consolidation of the state of law, - Professional duties and obligations. The final version of the plan will be produced at the end of the workshop. Source:UNESCO |
