eDirhams would be used for all postal transactions in UAE

Plans are underway to use eDirhams for all postal transactions at UAE post offices in near future. The plan will be implemented as part of the second phase of the partnership agreement between Emirates Post and Ministry of Finance and Industry signed recently, said Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director-General, Operations at Emirates Post.

Speaking at a Press conference held jointly with Khalid Al Jawhary, Director of Revenue Department, Ministry of Finance and Industry in Dubai, Al Shaya announced all main post offices in the UAE will offer the facility of sale and re-charge of eDirham cards, following an agreement between Emirates Post and Ministry of Finance.

The move is aimed at making eDirham available all over the country through the postal network. Under the first phase of the agreement, Al Shaya said, all main post-offices will sell or re-charge eDirham cards. The re-charge service is meant for representatives who carry out transactions on behalf of government departments.

'eDirham has become an important mode of payment all over the country. It allows members of the public to pay for public services without the need to carry cash,' said Al Shaya. 'We would like to thank the Ministry of Finance & Industry for offering the sale of eDirham through the postal network.'

'This agreement provides us with an opportunity to increase the sales points for eDirham,' said Khalid Al Jawhary, Director of Revenue Department, UAE Ministry of Finance & Industry.
