BSNL launches toll free helpline in Mysore

Information on Mysore is just a phone call away for tourists arriving in the Heritage City for the 10-day Dasara festivities. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. has launched a nation-wide 24-hour toll free helpline to provide information on Dasara events and related aspects.

The helpline number — 125711 — was launched by Minister of State for Labour Tanveer Sait in Mysore. It provides a detailed list of events, locations, admission fee, timings and landmarks near the event venue. The helpline is also accessible to callers from any part of the world using a touch-tone telephone.

Not only will it provide information on Dasara events, but also a list of tourist spots within a 50-km radius of the city, and information on such places of tourist interest. The helpline has the capacity to handle 16 calls simultaneously, and does not require an operator for functioning.

Among the features incorporated into the toll free helpline are announcements in English and Hindi to provide easy information for tourists from outside Karnataka. The user-friendly helpline has a uniform tone of response and multiple language call handling facility, and has been developed jointly by BSNL and the Mysore Dasara Committee using the WinSpeak platform developed by Winfoware Technologies Ltd.

Other details include a list of tour operators and hospitals and train timings. Official sources said that the helpline will also prevent the harassment of tourists by touts and middlemen.

The Minister also launched a website, www.mysoretourism.org. The website contains a history of the city, details on education facilities, hospitals, business and industry, essential services, banks/ATMs, communication, and important personalities. It also promotes Mysore as a destination for tourists, students, IT professionals, culture and heritage and those seeking health services.
