When the proposed interlinking of the major rivers in the country becomes a reality, a Bangalore-based "knowledge integration company" would have played an important role.
The National Waterways Development Council, headed by A.C. Kamaraj, will appoint Nandaki Systems as Programme Managers for building the initial information base. This information will help in making intelligent decisions on networking of rivers, Mr. Kamaraj said here on Tuesday.
"Economic feasibility will be an important factor of the information generated. The entire process of planning, budgeting and financial control, generation of funds and their use and public accountability will be through advanced enterprise resource planning systems," he said.
Information will be generated about the geographical feasibility too prioritisation of land to be acquired, flood control benefits and other data through Geographical Information Systems.
The river networking is expected to result in 15,000 km of national waterways, through which transportation is possible with 10 per cent consumption of petroleum products as compared to other modes of transport.
Nandaki Systems will collate information related to project management, with technology from around the world. There will also be a performance management component through implementation of a portal management system and knowledge management system.
