Go Wi-Fi at Pune airport
|
The next time you have to catch a flight out of Pune, you can flick open your laptop and log on to high speed wireless internet connection as the city airport is now fully Wi-Fi enabled.
The 256 kbps internet hub has been set up at the Pune airport by Microsense, a leading Wi-Fi provider. In a sense, this is a major development as far as airport development goes. For, Pune airport becomes the first civil enclave (a civilian airport operating in an Air Force base) to be Wi-Fi enabled. Hopefully, this will now speed up wireless accessibility at the 13 other civil enclaves including Chandigarh, Agra, Jammu, Srinagar and Leh. At Pune airport, the present capacity of the installed Wi-Fi system only supports 20 simultaneous connections at optimum speed. Initially, the service is being provided through a pre-paid scheme where the customer buys ‘‘internet minutes’’ ranging from a half-an-hour pack that costs Rs 35 to an 18-hour pack that costs Rs 500. The same registration ID (see box) can be used to log on to any of the 150 Microsense Wi-Fi spots spread across seven cities. ‘‘It will be usable in any of our Wi-Fi spots like Cafe Coffee Day outlets in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad,’’ added Kailasanathan.
