Ninety teachers from Central, Western and Volta Regions of Africa would by the end of the year undergo ICT training to prepare students for the "i2cap"ICT Competition scheduled to take place at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT in November and December 2005. The coordinator of the project, Mr. Ebenezer Kye-Mensah said.
"They would learn basic programming language which would be used for the competition. The teachers also are expected to train other tutors and mentor 35 students and select 4 to represent their school in the final contest. The training of trainers programme is also expected to equip the teachers to facilitate the integration of ICT in education in their schools.
This project by The Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence is in line with its mandate to stimulate the development of the ICT sector in Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) and is in conformity with one of the policy objectives of the Ghana ICT for Accelerated Development policy which is to transform the educational system to provide the requisite educational training services and environment capable of producing the right type of skills and human resources required for developing and driving Ghana information and knowledge based economy".
