Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Dubai is set go hi-tech

Labour cards can be collected from special electronic machines by just giving the relevant numbers. PRO cards will also be issued electronically and digital signatures will replace manual signatures of owners of companies.

These facilities will be a reality by this year end with all services of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs set to go into an electronic mode, disclosed Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, the Minister. He said the ministry will also privatise some of its services including receipt of applications electronically by using special machines to be distributed all over the country.

He said that in the first phase of the labour card electronic project, 20 machines will be installed at different public places. The applicant or company PRO will be notified through an SMS that the labour card is ready. The applicant will then collect the card from the machine by just inserting the card's number, he explained.

The project will help companies avoid paying fines for the delay in collecting renewed or issued labour cards. Besides, the project will obviate claims regarding which party, the ministry or the company, is responsible for the delay, he noted.

Announcing the "Electronic PRO " project, Dr Al Kaabi explained that the PRO will use the smart card when typing any application and the card's number will be used to identify the person who submitted the application.

This project will be linked to the electronic signature project, which will replace the manual signature of company owners. The signature will be saved at the ministry on electronic card, he added.
